COMMUNITY SUPPORTED AGRICULTURE MEMBER AGREEMENT
We at St. Simon's Farm wish to provide you with fresh, local, seasonal food and you, the member, wish to receive a portion of our harvest. This agreement outlines our shared commitments to that relationship. By purchasing a membership share, you agree to the terms and conditions outlined herein. Please retain a copy of this agreement for your records.
Becoming a Member of St. Simon's Farm
CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture, which is basically a subscription for vegetables. Members pay up front to secure their share. We farmers then use the money to buy seeds and equipment and get food growing. Then, each week, beginning in late October and ending in late April, we deliver fresh, local vegetables to our farm members.
Our growing season is divided into two 12-week CSA seasons:
Fall Season share: October 28th through early January 13th
Spring Season share: January 20th through early April 7th
This division allows members to try out the concept of a CSA, without committing to the entire season.
The Fall and Spring each run for 12 weeks. Members can elect to join one or the other, or both. The Winter and Spring shares are the same price, but if you sign up for both you can receive a discount (see Member Fees below).
All sign-ups are done online at http://urbanvegetableproject.com . We accept Credit Card or Paypal.
What’s in the Box?
Each week, you will receive a box fill of fresh, locally grown, seasonal produce. The box feeds a family of four, or two veggie lovers. All of your produce is grown on a half-acre plot of land in the heart of Miami, Florida.
For the most part, the Fall Share and Spring Share boxes will contain the same vegetables. The Fall Share box may feature vegetables that can tolerate the heat of the late Miami summer, including sweet potatoes and okra.
We’re in the process of obtaining our Organic certification, so everything we do abides by these standards. All of our seed, soil, pesticides, and herbicides are OMRI Certified organic. We do not use synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, or genetically modified seed. We welcome any questions about our growing practice.
Because we’re committed to providing our members with the freshest, most seasonal vegetables for our climate, the contents of the box will vary from week to week. We will be providing weekly announcements and newsletters about the contents of the box, and we’re happy to share our favorite recipes and cooking tips with members.
One of the biggest benefits to joining a CSA is that you are able to eat the freshest, most seasonal vegetables in South Florida. That means that you may receive vegetables you’ve never seen. We will be providing information and recipes for all our vegetables in hopes that nothing goes to waste. However, unless you have a serious allergy, we prefer not to entertain specific vegetable requests. We encourage you to find new ways to use your produce, or maybe trade them with a friend!

You are responsible for observing the pick-up site rules, which are as follows:
Pick up your share within the time-frame stated.
Be respectful of the pick-up location host’s property.
Follow any additional rules posted at the pick-up location site.
Return last week’s box every week.
If you cannot pick up your share, you must arrange for someone else to pick it up for you. Please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org no less than 24 hours before your scheduled pick-up. You are responsible for explaining the pick-up procedure to your substitute. If unforeseen circumstances arise, please email us as soon as possible as we try to accommodate emergencies. Unexplained shares that are not retrieved within the designated pick-up time will be forfeited for that week.
You will be receiving the freshest produce available short of growing it yourself. That being said, shares will come packed unwashed for the most part. Please take the time to properly wash and store all produce each week once received.
Please note that the pick-up location is only providing a service for your convenience and at no cost and that it is not responsible for the products or services offered by the St. Simon's Farm, including the vegetables. You acknowledge and agree that any issue with your vegetables, including how they are handled, stored, and processed, will be addressed by St. Simon's Farm and not by the pick-up location.
By selling membership in advance of the growing season, CSA reduces the burden of up-front costs for the farmer. Your membership fees provide us with money to purchase seed and equipment before the season starts, and we appreciate your commitment.
Single Season Share:
There are two payment options:
In Full: $350, due at sign-up ($29.12 a box)
Payment Plan: $180 due at sign-up, $180 due one month later (Fall share: November 19 / Spring share: February 11) ($30.00 a box) Please contact us if you plan on using the Payment Plan.
Two-Season Share Special:
If you sign up for both Winter and Spring Shares before October 1, you will receive a $25 discount off the total price ($27.91 a box)
If you are a Winter Share member and you sign up for the Spring share before November 1, you will receive a $15 discount off the Spring Share price ($28.54 a box)
Current students with a valid student ID can receive 15% off any membership. Upon purchase, you must email a photo of your valid student ID to email@example.com
We offer a one-time single box purchase during the first week of the season. This will give potential members the opportunity to try out the concept of CSA and see how it works for them and their family. You will have one week from the time of sample box pick-up to sign up for the season.
Members of our farm get the opportunity to share in the abundance of a local South Florida farm. With that opportunity there are risks associated with our growing season. We are committed to minimizing those risks, yet risks will always remain. We promise to do our best to provide you with a bountiful share each week. The quantity of produce, however, may vary from week-to-week due to extreme weather, insects, or other production factors despite our best efforts. By joining our CSA, you are agreeing to share the risk of crop failure with us and our other members.
In the unlikely event of crop failure: If only a small portion of crops fail, we compensate for the failed crops by filling your box with other crops grown on the farm that are ready for harvest at that time. If a large portion of crops fail, we may not be able to deliver any products in some weeks. Should this happen, members will be contacted directly, as soon as possible to discuss options for remediation. However, it is unlikely that we would be able to refund memberships or even partial memberships as the money is used to fund the seasons expenses. Please take this into consideration when joining the CSA.

When you sign up, you will be added to our email distribution list. Please read your emails from us. We depend on being able to communicate important information such as necessary changes to your distribution schedule or to our farm events. Every week, we will email a newsletter giving you information about the crops available that week, recipe ideas, or other farm related news.
